Tyler has reasoned with himself that even if he's somehow in a coma and this is all playing out in his head, it's the coolest thing he's ever seen. This set against a backdrop of absolute sexual inexperience and serious intimidation anytime he even thinks about the festival. It's conversations and interactions like these that make that side of things almost bearable.
It's easier to push any lingering embarrassment aside though as he contemplates the flame and has the urge to touch it. Logically it should be hot but curiosity is getting the better of him.
