Time blurs. Consciousness comes back slowly. The locals drag him out of the way, least he ruin their fun, but leave him be. Gabe wakes slowly, pushing himself up with a groan. He aches in new and exciting ways, and his tech registers blood. Mostly his own.

Gabe hisses out a breath. Someone put his sunglasses back. Someone took a knife to him. He reaches with twitching fingers, tracing out the lines of the lettering. An unfamiliar script and yet, somehow, he knows it intimately. As familiar as the Spanish his parents spoke when he was a child.
