Vex has certainly always considered herself smart, and she's tried very hard to be. Whether or not it's true (or if she always believes it herself) is a little more open to debate. She's sure Scanlan would have some choice words to say about that, but he's not here so fuck him.

That's the thing though, isn't it? He's not here, and neither is Percy, or Keyleth, or Pike. That last in particular would have said something about staying out here as long as they could if there were still people who needed saving.

It's so much easier to look smart when someone else is there to make the righteous, brave, objectively stupid suggestion for you.

Which is all to say, Vex is visibly torn between those choices.
